Transforming Legal Aid – South Yorkshire Meeting – 2nd October Quaker House

The second consultation by the Lord Chancellor closes by 18th October.

We have less than 4 weeks to respond to a second version of the assault on our businesses / livelihoods.

Dont be lulled into a false sense of security by the Headlines that PCT is dead, client choice is retained or that the Law Society has given in so that it isn’t worth responding.

Could you survive an 8.75% cut in your income next spring with a further 8.75% (based on current value) in Spring 2015 ?

Can you survive a restructuring (for which read reduction ) of AGF ?

What will the reduction in the use of multiple advocates mean to you, can you survive ?

Will you be ready to bid for a contract early next year ?

Could your business survive on an “Own Client only” contract ?

Will you be one of the South Yorkshire firms “lucky” enough to get a Duty Contract (there are still likely to be 8 for the whole county) ?

If you do VHCC work can you survive a 30% cut in fees ?

Assuming that you dont answer yes to all these questions come to the meeting and discuss responses to this consultation.

Refreshments at 4.30, Meeting starts at 5 until 6.30. (£5 per head to cover room hire and refreshments.)

Please circulate a copy of this to all South Yorkshire firms and within Chambers.

It would be helpful to manage numbers if you could let me know if you propose to come by e mailing me on
