All About Our New Team

Our New President and Team

I am the current president of the Society, having become junior vice president in September 2018 and then vice president in September 2019 and subsequently president in September 2021 as, due to Covid, I served a two-year term as vice president and my predecessor, Andrea Pashley, kindly agreed to remain in post for a second year as president.

I am a claimant litigation solicitor and I represent those who have been injured at work, on the roads, or in other circumstances, to help them to secure financial or other redress for their injuries, usually, but not always, through the Courts.  I have worked for Atherton Godfrey LLP, and prior to that Atherton Godfrey solicitors, for 22 years (time does speed up as you get older!).

During my time at 8 Hall Gate, Doncaster, I have witnessed many changes with the most significant having occurred since March 2020 when our long-established profession was well and truly catapulted into the digital age.  I think that many businesses have experienced some positive changes during this period; perhaps two of the most environmentally friendly have been a reduction in paper usage and in travel as more people are happy to receive correspondence by email and to hold meetings by utilising on-line platforms.

I am very honoured to have been elected to be the Society’s president.  I have been fortunate to have been able to attend one in person committee meeting since September (the rest, regrettably, have had to be held remotely) and I am hopeful that there will be more throughout my term in office.

I have enjoyed becoming directly involved in issues that are likely to impact on the profession.  I have found the Law Society meetings that I have attended  informative and I am currently finalising the Society’s response to the Solicitors Regulation Authority’s consultation, in respect of the Solicitors Indemnity Fund and post six year run off cover (you’ll find more information about this on the website).

I do hope that you enjoy our newsletters and I thank the committee for their hard work in putting these together.  I also thank them for making the DDLS such an important part of the legal community and in coming up with initiatives and arranging activities to provide training and to engage with and raise money to help others within our local and wider community.
